Statue of Liberty Crown tickets sold out? What to do, in order

Sold Out on the official site is often not the last word. Between July and late September 2026, when a Crown date showed Sold Out a week ahead, spots came back later on 9 dates out of 10. The closer your visit, the lower the odds.

Check the days around yours and the other departure point first, then keep watching your date.

Why do spots come back on a sold-out date?

Because booked tickets go back on sale. Statue City Cruises refunds anyone who cancels at least 24 hours before departure, so people whose plans change cancel in time. Spots also come back when a booking is started but never completed.

Sold Out only means that, right now, no Crown ticket is available for that day at that departure point. There is no waitlist, so a spot that comes back goes to whoever books it first.

1. Can you move your visit by a day or two?

A day either side of yours may still be open. On the official booking page, a sold-out Crown ticket shows the next available date for its departure point. Look there before clicking through the calendar day by day. Our live calendar also shows at a glance which days have spots at either departure point.

If a nearby day works and your trip can really move, book it now. Have every visitor's full name ready, spelled as on their photo ID: names are printed on Crown tickets and can't be changed later.

2. Can you leave from the other departure point?

Sometimes, so check both. The Crown is sold as two separate tickets: New York Crown Reserve, from Battery Park in Manhattan, and New Jersey Crown Reserve, from Liberty State Park in Jersey City. Each has its own calendar, and one can have spots on a day the other shows Sold Out.

You collect your tickets and wristbands at the Will Call window of the departure point you booked, so pick one you can reach on the day of your visit. Every time you check, switch the departure point on the booking page and look at your date again.

3. Stuck with your date? Keep watching it

Spots come back at any time of day or night, and Statue City Cruises publishes no schedule, so there is no best hour to check. Our guide to when tickets become available has more.

How long a returned spot lasts depends on how close the date is. Weeks ahead, it can stay open for hours. In the final week, it is usually gone within the hour. So the closer you get, the more often you need to look: check both departure points as often as you can, or let an alert do it for you (see below).

When a spot appears, book it in one go, with every visitor's full name and your card ready.

Can someone else sell you a Crown ticket?

No, not one that gets you in. Crown tickets are sold only by Statue City Cruises, the National Park Service's authorized seller, online or by phone. Each visitor's name is printed on the ticket and can't be changed or transferred. Adults show a matching photo ID, and the person who paid collects the tickets and wristbands with the card they used.

A ticket bought from anyone else can leave you at the pickup window with nothing. No website or tour can add a spot to a date the official site shows as Sold Out. Book on the official site only, at $26.30 per adult for 2026 visits ($26.80 in 2027), fees and taxes included (more on buying safely).

Questions people ask when their date is sold out

What if nothing opens up for my date?
It can happen, and it gets more likely the closer your date is. Being flexible on the day or the departure point improves your chances. For a future trip, Statue City Cruises recommends booking about three to four months ahead.
Can I buy Crown tickets at the gate, or by phone?
You can call Statue City Cruises at 877-523-9849, though as far as we can tell the phone line sells from the same calendar as the website. There are no same-day Crown tickets and no waitlist. There are no ticket booths on Liberty or Ellis Island, and a General Admission ticket can't be upgraded to the Crown once you are at the departure point or on the island.
How can I get Statue of Liberty Crown tickets?
Only from Statue City Cruises, the National Park Service's authorized seller, on its website or by phone at 877-523-9849. You can book up to four Crown tickets per order, and each cardholder can make one Crown reservation every six months. If your date is sold out, follow the steps above.
Can you still go up in the Crown?
Yes. The Crown is open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Visits last up to 10 minutes. You climb 162 narrow steps from the top of the pedestal, with no elevator, and every visitor must be at least 42 inches (1.1 m) tall.
Are Crown tickets worth it?
It depends on the climb. The Crown is the only way to stand inside the statue itself and look out through the 25 windows of the crown, and only about 500 visitors go up each day. A ticket costs $26.30 per adult for 2026 visits, ferry included. The visit is short, though, and the 162 steps are steep and narrow. More in the climb and Crown vs Pedestal.
